History

n the late 1950s, a group of local Mosman Park residents shared a vision to create a community golf course on the banks of the Swan River. Their proposal to lease land from the Mosman Park Road Board was approved in August 1959, marking the beginning of what would become the Mosman Park Golf Club.

Foundations, Design and Early Identity

Construction commenced soon after, with much of the work carried out voluntarily by the Club’s founding members. This early commitment and community spirit continue to define the Club today. The original nine-hole course was designed by respected local golf professional Neville Johnson and remains largely unchanged in character and layout.

Later in 1959, the Club was renamed Chidley Point Golf Club, adopting the Fleur de Lys, the Chidley family emblem, as its logo. The name honours Captain Chidley Irwin, who arrived in the Swan River Colony with Western Australia’s first Governor, Captain James Stirling. As commander of the Sixty Third Regiment, later absorbed into the Manchester Regiment, Captain Irwin was the first recorded European to set foot on the point that now bears his name.

Official Opening and Course Evolution

The course was officially opened in March 1962, establishing itself as a valued recreational facility for the local community.

In 2000, the Club proudly reverted to its original name, Mosman Park Golf Club, reaffirming its strong local identity and heritage.

In recognition of the need to modernise while respecting the course’s character, the Committee engaged leading Perth golf course architect Michael Coate in 2007 to develop a master plan for future improvements. Since then, new fairway bunkers have been added to several holes, and new greens have been constructed on holes 1/10 and 9/18.
